Freedom Harley-Davidson® of Ottawa New to Riding?

The journey to getting your motorcycle licence is easier than you think.

In 3 easy steps, you are well on your way to the road to freedom.

M1- Written Test

If you are applying for a motorcycle licence, you need to pick up the MTO Driver's Handbook and MTO Motorcycle Handbook as a guide to safe riding practices and Ontario's laws regarding motorcycles.

Copies of this handbook may be purchased online on the ServiceOntario Publications Web site, or from a retail store near you, a DriveTest centre or select Driver and Vehicle Licence Issuing Office. The cost is $14.95 plus applicable taxes.

There are several restriction to an M1 Motorcycle License and it is only valid up to 90 days, which means you will need to schedule your M2 Training Course/Exam within that window.

Before moving to Level 2 (Class M2), you must pass a road test, either as part of a Ministry-approved motorcycle safety course or at a DriveTest Driver Examination Centre.

In Level 2 (Class M2), you will be required to take a Motorcycle training course and complete a road exam either at the course or at a DriveTest Driver Examination Centre. Courses typically are 1 classroom night of theory and 1 weekend of rider training with the exam at the end of the weekend.

Just think, 1 weekend- and you will be ready to ride.

M2 license, in its turn, lasts twenty-two months, or eighteen months if you take a Ministry-approved safety course.
Presumably, with M2 license you should now have enough skills and experience to carry a passenger with you and ride at any time (day or night) on any Ontario road.
Please remember that you must still not drink any alcohol if you will be riding.

It takes at least twenty months from when you start in M1 license until you can take your M2 Road Motorcycle Test (a.k.a. M2 exit test) to earn a Full M License.
